Become an AFS Volunteer
Volunteers are a very essential part of AFS. And there are numerous opportunities, such as student orientations, student sending, family hosting, student-family liaison and orientation, occurring throughout the year in the greater Los Angeles area which require different types of volunteers both on the local chapter level and on the regional area. And there are numerous chapters established in the greater Los Angeles area.
What is a Chapter?
An AFS chapter is a structured group of volunteers in a school community who implement the AFS programs in that community by hosting and sending participants on AFS programs, and who work together to assure that the principles and standards of AFS are upheld.
What Kind of Volunteers Does a Chapter Need?
It takes many volunteers to form a viable chapter. For example, some of the common chapter volunteer positions include:
- President
- Accounting
- Student selection
- Family selection
- Student-Family Liaison
- Student's "AFS Aunt" and/or "AFS Uncle"
- Coordinating short-term home exchanges
- Fund raising
- Publishing chapter newsletter
- Publicity
Volunteer Registration
Volunteer Regisration is required per U.S. State Dept. guidelines in order to be an active AFS volunteer. Apply to become an AFS Volunteer.
